WHAT IS THE GRE?
We’ve heard about this test, but what is it? GRE stands for Graduate Record Examination. The GRE is a standardized test used for admission into graduate programs in the United States, Canada, and some other countries. I know you are saying to yourself not another test, but what if you took the time to learn about this test and prepare for it. Remember, we are here with you every step of the way before the big game. We want to coach and prep you for this significant step in your career. Success is where preparation and opportunity meet. WHAT ARE THE BEST APPS FOR GRE?
There’s an app for everything, and while scouring the internet, we found tons of websites and apps for GRE that will help you prepare for the test. Listed below are the Top 10 GRE Apps that students are using to prepare for the GRE. Many of these apps have a high success rate and have creative tools that can help you prepare for the GRE. While many of us learn differently, here’s the opportunity for you to get a snapshot of these apps so you can begin to collect information for your playbook. Remember, you are the quarterback, and you are in control of your preparation. Perfect practice makes for a perfect permanent performance. Let’s explore!
1. MAGOOSH
On Android Google Store and the iPhone/ iPad App Store, Magoosh seems to be the top seller on both platforms. Magoosh offers more than its competitors. The app was founded in 2009 by four students while attending the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Magoosh seems to be your one-stop-shop for all your GRE prep needs. This app also has other apps that centrally focus on GRE Vocabulary and the GRE Math sections. I found this app to be most helpful with its insightful articles on integrating test prep into your everyday life. The interface in this app is user-friendly and easy to navigate from section to section. This app offers study schedules, study guides, and resources. Magoosh caters to your learning style. For visual learners, there are videos and visual aids to your study routine. In each module on this app, there are test explanations to help the student understand the test and execute each section. These are necessary tools to consider as we develop your playbook and plan of attack.
2. GRE TEST PREP BY GALVANIZE
Number 2 on our list is GRE Test Prep by Galvanize. Galvanize is a popular app across Android and IOS platforms. Users of this app like how this app allows the student to understand how to execute the test, track their progress, and predict their test scores. Many apps will give you content, but they will not keep track of your progress to let you know if you are ready to take the test. The app enables you to set your target score and evaluates your progress. The only downfall is that this app allows you to track your friends’ progress. We believe that you are in this game alone and do not need to evaluate your progress to anyone else’s. We do not need to let out opponents in the locker room. On IOS, this app received a 4.6 out of 5 rating.
3. MANHATTAN PREP GRE
The Manhattan Prep GRE was founded in 2000 by a New York Public Junior High School Teacher. This app is structured a bit differently than its competitors. The Manhattan Prep GRE app is “content-based,” which allows the student to focus on the content presented on the test rather than trying to dissect the structure and psychology of the test. This app is excellent for the student who is analytical and excels on content-based tests and tasks. This app has over 1,000 tests and quizzes practice tests with the answer key. With the Manhattan Prep GRE app, you will receive a comprehensive view of the test structure, but the content remains at the heart of this app. When you subscribe to this app, you will also receive detailed stats on your progress. This app covers all sections of the GRE. This app gets a 4.7 out of 5 on IOS.
4. BARRON’S ESSENTIAL GRE WORDS
The app is focused explicitly on GRE Vocabulary. Barron’s Essential GRE Words has over 2,900 questions that will prepare you for the vocabulary section of the GRE. This app is user-specific and allows you to identify your weaknesses and customize tests and quizzes. This app also has in-app flashcards that are free. There are many pros to this app, but one of the cons is that you cannot track your progress and save the vocabulary words for your playbook. This app’s rating on IOS is a 4.4 out of 5.
5. GRE MATH BY SHERPA PREP
Math can be a daunting area of study for many of us, but with the GRE Math app by Sherpa Prep, getting into your dream Online MBA program will be a breeze. If you’re looking for quick fixes, tricks, and tips to the math portion of the GRE, this is the app for you. This app is filled with videos, tests, quizzes, statistics, and lessons. This app seems to have a few bugs, but the developer has since addressed those complaints. Users of this app praise the price point as well as the accessibility. This app was rated a 4.6 out of 5 on the IOS app store.

6. GRE DAILY VOCABULARY BY THE DAILY ECONOMIST
The vocabulary section of the GRE may seem as if you’re reading a foreign language. With this app from the Daily Economist, you have the opportunity to test your knowledge daily as you prepare for the GRE. Now, this app has a few downfalls. While using the app, we didn’t see the phonetic spelling for the selected word of the day, making it hard to pronounce the word, especially if it’s a word that is new to you. On the upside, this app allows you to learn the word in a context form. Memorization of words can become a task, but this is a win for the test and you personally when you are taught to expand your vocabulary. There aren’t any tests or quizzes with this app. This app was rated a 4.7 out of 5 on the IOS app store.
7. GRE FLASHCARDS BY MAGOOSH
Now I wanted to compare these two apps back to back because you can use them or figure out what works best for you and your study style. The GRE Vocabulary FLashcards by Magoosh seem to be one of the popular GRE vocabulary studying apps. Using this app paired with all the Magoosh products, you are sure to feel confident as you prepare. This app allows you to pick the difficulty of the words you want to study, and it will also ask you how secure you feel before you begin the evaluation. An experienced GRE tutor picks one thousand words with definitions and example sentences. Magoosh pulls out all the bells and whistles with this app and has an intelligent algorithm to track efficiency. This app was rated a 4.8 out of 5 on the IOS app store.
8. GRE PRACTICE TEST BY LOXO
While Magoosh, Manhattan Prep, and Galvanize seem to offer practice tests, we were on the lookout for other companies that approach the test from a different perspective. The GRE Practice Test by LOXO isn’t as popular as its predecessors; it still offers an app chock full of practice tests, quizzes, and modules to help you prepare. This app also provides 3,000 plus flashcards and practice questions. This app was rated a 4.4 out of 5 on the IOS app store.
9. GREMAX GRE PREP
We were in pursuit of an app that allowed the student to approach the GRE in small portions. GREMax GRE Prep is an app that packs a small punch. As they mention in the app, they come to the GRE in bite-sized pieces. I like this concept because this test can be overwhelming, and this apps helps you break down your study time and preparation in a productive way with data and analytics to gauge your success. As an athlete, they say that the road to victory is a marathon. This app was rated a 4.4 out of 5 on the IOS app store.
10. GRE FLASHCARDS BY KAPLAN
Our final app is the GRE Flashcards by Kaplan. Kaplan Inc. isn’t a rookie when it comes to educational tools. With over 83 years in the business, they are dedicated to producing a tool conducive to your needs. This GRE Flashcard app is one of the best on the market. As we researched this app, we found that it is free, but with many limitations. You are only given 50 free cards with your free subscription, which wasn’t very reassuring. While this isn’t a favorite to many students, we wanted to mention this option so that you are aware of the app’s possibilities and limitations. This app was rated a 2.4 out of 5 on the IOS app store.
