1. Recognize the Change Process
No two change initiatives are alike. However, the majority of those that succeed do so by following the phases of the change management process.
2. Recognize the Forces of Change
Before managers can effectively manage change, they must first understand why it is essential. It can be tough to create a plan that addresses underlying concerns and pressing questions if you don’t do so.
3. Make a Strategy
After you’ve identified why you want to change, you’ll need to design a strategy.
One of the critical tools in your arsenal for helping your organization and people through a period of tough transition is clear and focused communication. You must be able to communicate the change to two very different audiences.
5. Be ready for setbacks/Murphy’s Law.
Regardless of how diligently you prepare for change, things will not always go as planned. It would help if you were ready for a variety of possible outcomes.
Change is a deeply personal experience. Each individual must think, feel, or act differently for change to occur in any organization. Consider 25,000 people going through conversion experiences and arriving at a preset location at around the same time. It’s no surprise that corporate change is a challenging and frustrating topic on almost everyone’s agenda.
Managing change isn’t the same as operating a machine or treating a patient one at a time. These activities entail working with a set of predetermined relationships. As part of their change efforts, most organizations today work on several projects. An organization may be implementing TQM, process reengineering, employee empowerment, and a variety of other performance-enhancing initiatives at the same time. However, the key to the transformation endeavor is not to focus on each item separately; instead, it is to connect and balance them. Understanding how elements balance off one another, how changing one aspect affects the rest, and how sequencing and tempo affect the entire structure is crucial to managing change.
In a transition period, the actual value of leadership is in managing the dynamics, not the parts. The essential goal of the administration is to deal with the dynamics of change, the convergence and unity of the forces that change unleash to prepare the firm better to compete.
