Appalachian State University’s online MBA program at the Walker College of Business offers students the flexibility to customize their experience and course of study to meet professional and personal goals. Centered on the individual while providing team-oriented learning, this program prepares students for successful careers.

The online program provides the same high-quality curriculum as the business school’s On-Campus MBA, with a unique delivery mode. Online courses are internally reviewed and certified to ensure the effectiveness and quality of online teaching strategies. Class sizes are typically less than 25 students each and kept small to maximize student-to-instructor interaction in a distance-learning environment.

The Online MBA program is perfect for business leaders wanting to graduate in two years. Students take six hours each semester (fall, spring, and summer) to graduate with the 36-hour program in two years. Flexibility is possible for graduate students who want to progress at a slower or faster pace.

Business School

The Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University features transformational educational experiences that prepare and inspire business students to be engaged, ethical, and innovative business leaders who positively impact their community locally and globally. The business school emphasizes international experiences, entrepreneurial programs, sustainable business practices, and real-world applications with industry leaders. With more than 3,500 undergraduates in ten majors and nearly 200 graduate students in three master’s programs, Walker’s full-time undergraduate enrollment is the most substantial in the UNC System.

Online MBA Requirements

Graduate students enrolled in the online program may choose among seven specializations: Business Analytics, Economics, Interdisciplinary Business, International Business, Leading and Managing Human Resources, Supply Chain Management, and Sustainable Business. The Interdisciplinary Business concentration is also available to MBA students enrolled in the part-time evening program.

Walker’s online MBA curriculum comprises eight core academic requirements that all MBA students must satisfy. Each course is essential for developing transferable business skills. In addition to the core academic classes, graduate students take four elective courses, three of which must be related to their specialization. One elective needs an international business focus. Online MBA students take a zero-credit hour Executive Skills course in their final term.

Application Requirements

All candidates fill out a Graduate School Application. Applications need to be submitted and the fee paid by the applicable deadline. All required support documents can be received after the deadline if the application is complete in time for review before orientation and the start of the applicable term.

Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended are required. Candidates who attended Appalachian State University do not need to request their official App State transcript. All applicants must upload a two-to-three-page, double-spaced Personal Statement on what has prompted their interest in obtaining an MBA degree and what appeals to them about the program at Appalachian. Future grad students must include their professional plans and ambitions once they have completed their master’s degree.
