As Sam Houston State University is named after “Texas’ greatest hero,” it strives to live up to its roots through providing exceptional teaching, excellence in academic offerings, and opportunities to serve others. The over 21,500 students experience traditional and online programs throughout eight colleges that offer over 90 bachelor’s, 55 master’s, including an online MBA, and ten doctoral degrees.
Business School
Over 3,000 students study challenging business degrees every year at the AACSB-accredited College of Business Administration. It began in 1923 with a few commercial courses, awarded its first Bachelor’s in Business in 1935, and its first MBA in 1964. Now, through small classes, highly qualified faculty, four academic departments, professional development opportunities, and an inclusive student-focused learning environment, business students fully prepare for success. Programs
Undergraduate studies consist of a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with majors in Finance, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, General Business Administration, Banking & Financial Institutions, Economics, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, International Business, Management Information Systems, and Management. There is an option to specialize in Professional Golf Management. Students can also complete the BBA in General Business Administration online.
Graduate students pursue an in-person Master’s in Accounting, an online MBA, an online Master’s in Project Management, and a hybrid Executive MBA in Banking & Financial Institutions.
Online MBA Requirements
SHSU’s 100% online MBA prepares students for leadership positions and to successfully step into a doctoral program. It is designed for students with any academic background but may require completion of prerequisite courses in addition to the 36-credit hour requirement. Students receive basic managerial development through 27 hours of core courses plus individualized education through nine elective hours. Some can complete the online MBA in four semesters, but most will take two years.
Qualified candidates with experience in banking and finance can pursue the online Executive MBA in Banking & Financial Institutions. It does require two two-week in-person residencies, but the rest of the 36-credit hours are completed online.
Courses
Prerequisite courses include Analysis of Accounting Information, Economic Principles & Policy, Quantitative Tools for Business, Foundations of Strategic Management, and Business Finance Environment. Core coursework is in Techniques of Statistical Analysis, Financial Management, Seminar in Team Leadership, Marketing Management, Accounting for Management, Managerial Communication, Seminar in Operations Management, and Seminar in Strategic Management & Policy. As for electives, students must choose one Economics elective and three General Electives.
Application Requirements
All applicants must submit the Online Graduate Application Form and pay the application fee. Then, you need to submit official transcripts, a current resume, and official GMAT scores. If you want to qualify for a GMAT waiver, you need to have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher.
