It is distinct from both government and business, but simultaneously intertwined with them as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-the-history-of-nonprofit-management\">What is the History of Nonprofit Management?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To understand modern nonprofit organizations, it&#8217;s essential to realize the historical context they originated from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Birth of Nonprofit Practices<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/19th-century\/gilded-age#section_8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Highly defined labor unions and sweeping labor reforms<\/a>&nbsp;were a hallmark of the late 1800s to the early 1920s. However, this period was also characterized by a growing upper class in the United States with resources to spend on causes. Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and Henry Ford were titans of industry at that time. However, it should be noted that many of these business leaders, like Carnegie, were known for paying their employees significantly low wages with no safety procedures and oversight. This reality shifted funding for nonprofits into the public sector.
